Photos showed the supreme leader and his daughter watching an artillery unit of the Korean People’s Army fire a barrage of missiles yesterday wearing matching black jackets while being accompanied by uniformed North Korean officers.
In a statement released by the Republic of Korean Army i.e; the South Korean army officials said that South Korea detected the launch of one ballistic missile and is currently assessing the likelihood of the launch of many more. Further, they spoke about being prepared instead of the launch of multiple missile launches from North Korea.
The Korean Central News Agency released photos of Frida showing what looks like at least six missiles being fired at the same time from the Hwasong unit. The Hwasong unit further stated that it has been trained for “strike missions”. All launched and fired missiles were targeted at the waters in the West Sea of Korea; as reported by the Korean Central News Agency.
Supreme leader Kim Jong Un inspected the drills, commanding the soldiers to prepare for “two strategic missions” where the first would be to deter war and the second mission would be to take an active initiative in the war. He further added that all units of the Korean People’s Army should work towards intensifying various drills that simulate real war situations in the most diverse ways and situations possible.
News of the drill by North Korea came soon after South Korea and the United States of America started preparations to kick off their largest joint exercise which will start on Monday i.e; 13th march 2024. This is the first major joint exercise between South Korea and the United States in five years.
Presently, relations between North Korea and South Korea are at their worst in years as North Korea has upped its nuclear arms and is consistently conducting weapons testing of banned weapons. Meanwhile, South Korea has been boosting its security cooperation with the United States in response to North Korea’s increased Nuclear and weapons testing.
For a long time, Pyongyang has claimed that its nuclear weapon systems and missile programs are only for self defence in the event of an unprecedented war. North Korea also dubbed the ‘practice’ usage of such defence systems as “rehearsals” for an invasion while swarming over the United States and South Korean military exercises.
The Korean Central News Agency also remarked that the rehearsal drills were using conditions simulating major elements of South Korea’s operation airport. Experts say that the North Korean Air Force is the weakest link of its military and that this exercise aims to strategically compensate for that.
The “real war” drill by the North Korean Army marked another appearance for Kim Jong Un’s daughter Ju Ae.
South Korean intelligence sources believe that she is his second child though no formal confirmation of her name or the number of Kim Jong Un’s children has been given by North Korea ever.
Experts regard Ju Ae, eleven years old, as Kim Jong Un’s de facto heir thus opening up the possibility of her taking over as North Korea’s next supreme leader. This was one of her several high-profile appearances in the last few months.
