Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra booked for murder; UP strikes a conditional truce with protesters after promising compensation and dialogue.
Police on Monday booked Union minister Ajay Mishmash son Ashish Mishra for murder and conspiracy following his alleged involvement in the death of 8 people in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The government has also announced that a retired high court judge will conduct a judicial probe on the incident.
Additional Chief secretary Awanish Kumar Aashthi also said that the government would give Rs 45 lakhs and a job to the families of the deceased. They also promised compensation of 10 lakhs for the injured.
The Lakhimpur Farmers Clash Incident
The opposition parties have also strongly protested against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Uttar Pradesh for the brutal clash that resulted in the death of eight people- four of whom were farmers.
They were said to have been killed when a convoy of union minister Ajay Mishra, allegedly driven by his son Ashish Mishra, reportedly ploughed down on the protesters in Lakhimpur Kheri.
The incident led to violent protests throughout the country. The violence marked the deadly escalation of the year-long protest against the three central laws that farmers believe will erode state support prices, and the government has so far denied the charge.
Ashish Mishra denied the charges by saying that he didn’t involve and was not present in the car that went over the farmer. Following the alleged accusation, Union minister Ajay Mishra rejected the claims on his son and blamed the farmers for inciting violence, pelting stones and torching the vehicles and their occupants to death.
They also identified a local journalist at the local morgue, increasing the death toll to nine people in the clash.
Post-Procedure of the Clash
The Superintendent of Police at Tikunia Police Station lodged a FiR for section 302 murder and 120 B criminal conspiracy. Also, section 304 A for causing death due to reckless driving under the Indian penal code (IPC). Farmer Jagjeet Singh complained Ashish Mishra and 15-20 unidentified persons on various charges.
Several opposition leaders tried to meet the families of the deceased farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday and detained; those detained included the likes of Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhjider Randhawa and Akhilesh Yadav and released; later, many opposition leaders took to social media and put out a video showing vehicles plunging into protesters from the violent incident last week.
The Officials allowed the Farm leader Rakesh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Union and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar to enter the area amid the government blockage.
After facilitating the postmortem of the four farmers killed, Tikait has requested the farmers to clear the protest in the area as the government has agreed to their demands. Addressing the incident, Tikait said, “We have been assured that the accused will be arrested within seven days, and we are content for now.”
