Lata Mangeshkar, born Hema Mangeshkar was believed to be the nightingale of Bollywood. She was also the voice of Bollywood playback singing and cinema. Lata Mangeshkar is one of the greatest singers Bollywood has ever got in its history. The Lata Mangeshkar Award is a national-level award inaugurated to honour works in the music Industry.
Lata Mangeshkar sang songs in 36 Indian languages, Hindi, Marathi, and Bengali being the main 3 languages. She also sang in foreign languages such as Indonesian, Russian, and Dutch. Nepali, Swahili, etc.
She is a recipient of Bharat Ratna, National film awards, 2 Filmfare special awards, and many other prestigious awards. She also holds the world record for recording the highest number of songs between 1948 and 1987.
Renowned playback singer duo Anand- Milind and legendary singer Shailendra will be awarded the Lata Mangeshkar award and a cash prize of Rs.2 lakhs on her birth anniversary, 28th September.
The Madhya Pradesh government will do the honours in the late singers’ honour. The award has become the tradition and culture of the MP government. The prize given by the Madhya Pradesh government is awarded to singers who have done excellent work/singing in their respective industries.
Shailendra and Anand- Milind are the chosen ones from Bollywood for the award. Shailendra was a famous singer in Bollywood during the ’70s and ’80s. He was known for giving a distinct voice to many of the songs in Bollywood movies during that time.
Shailendra and Lata Mangeshkar have given their voice to many of the famous Bollywood songs. Some of them are Jhoot bole kava kaate, Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, and many other notable works.
The duo, Anand- Milind has composed music for more than 200 films and will be conferred with the Lata Mangeshkar award. Along with Anand- Milind, Shailendra will be conferred with the Lata Mangeshkar award for the year 2020.
They will be given an award for the year 2020 because the last time the Madhya Pradesh government organized this event was in 2020. The MP government had to postpone the event due to the pandemic. This year, the MP government has decided to resume the award function.
Shailendra and Anand- Milind took to Twitter to show their gratitude for being nominated and awarded the Lata Mangeshkar award ahead of 28th September. The voice of Bollywood cinema, Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28th September 1929. She passed away due to multiple organ failures in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai.
Multiple organ failures occurred due to COVID and pneumonia. For her funeral, Amitabh Bacchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and many other notable personalities were present. She is survived by her siblings, Asha, Dinanath, and Usha, and grand-niece Shraddha Kapoor. Naushad, Kishore Kumar, and Asha Bhosale were the previous awardees.
