A new solo show, “magical personified vulnerable,” by Colorado-based artist Chinn Wang will premiere at the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art on Thursday, February 3, 2022, focusing on themes of invisibility erasure, identity, and the immigrant experience.Â
“I am particularly interested in the visual portrayal of the linked experience, in both life and death, that immigrants endure as they endeavor to integrate while still seeking to keep links to their home cultures,” Wang said of the exhibition, which will include photography and print media.Â
The solo exhibition will feature several new pieces, many of which are inspired by geomancy, the practice of meticulously analyzing the natural environment in order to identify promising burial places, particularly those that vital channel force. Wang claims that geomantic tactics serve as vivid analogies for her ongoing discovery of her own art essential energy source, which she believes will help the continuing development and reformation of her identity.Â
Wang will give a free Visiting Artists & Critics Series talk on February 3 at 5 p.m. in the Chapman Foundation Recital Hall at the Ent Center to commemorate the exhibition’s launch. From 6–8 p.m., there will be a reception.Â
The exhibition will be on display from February 3 to April 16, 2022, with gallery hours from Thursday to Sunday, 1–7:30 p.m., and by appointment.Â
