On Friday, N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, came close to resigning when he was stopped by a huge crowd outside his residence, which was chanting slogans in support of his government.
As N Biren Singh and 20 MLAs left his residence to meet the Governor at the Governor’s residence, he had to return to the residence as the crowd outside refused to let him pass. After a while, a few ministers, led by the Minister of PWD, addressed the gathering, and Minister Susidra Metitei read out the resignation letter that N Biren was supposed to submit to the Governor. The minister then handed the resignation letter to some gathered women who tore it.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had a meeting with the Governor of Manipur on Friday. After the meeting, Mr Gandhi told reporters, “I want peace in Manipur. I have visited some of the relief camps and there are some shortcomings in them. He also added further that , ”The government should must do something about them, rather than be silent.
Mr Gandhi will meet with like-minded party leaders, UNC leaders and civil society organisations at his hotel in Imphal today, said Manipur Congress President Keisham Mehachandra.
After his convoy was clamped down by the police yesterday, Rahul was forced to fly in a chopper from Kolkata to visit the relief camps in the state of Manipur. The Congress leader hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state, claiming that he has come to hear the people of Manipur and that he is being prevented from doing so by the government. On Twitter Rahul Gandhi shared his words that the government is preventing him from visiting Manipur. “People of Manipur need to heal. Peace must be our top priority.”
Jairam Ramesh, the Congress leader, said that Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state is in line with the Bharat jodo yatra. “PM Modi may choose to stay quiet or remain inactive, but Rahul Gandhi’s visit is an opportunity to listen to the people of Manipur and provide them with a sense of healing,” he said.

Mallikarjurn Kharge, the party’s leader in the Lower House of Parliament, said Rahul Gandhi’s convoy has been clamped by the police in the state of Manipur. The Congress leader said Rahul Gandhi is visiting the state to meet the relief camp-goers and give them a sense of healing in the troubled state. “PM Modi has left Manipur without even breaking his silence,” Kharge said.
Congress Northeast in-charge Ajoy Kumar said that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have always raised the issue of Manipur. He said that the country should be aware of the law and order situation in the state. He added that the double-engine government in Manipur has become a triple problem government, and the Prime Minister has not said anything about it. Kumar also said that Rahul Gandhi should meet the people of Manipur and the government should be made aware of the situation.
The official schedule for Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur shows that he will address a programme at Greenwood Academy in the morning, on Friday at Tuibong, in the afternoon. Also, the officials share that Mr. Gandhi will do a visit to Moirang as well, in the evening. The Government and Community Hall are also in the schedule list of Gandhi to visit, told by officials.
