Nirmala Sitharaman’s Speech
Speaking to the Lok Sabha during the discussion of the vote of no confidence against the BJP administration, the Finance Minister claimed that although the World Bank predicts a drop in the world economy, India is in a remarkably upbeat situation.
In 2013, the economy of India was deemed shaky. India’s economy has been enhanced by the same organisation, she added, noting that growth persisted even while the Covid epidemic spread.
“Our real GDP grew by 7.2% in 2022–2023, and 6.5% is predicted to happen in 2024–2024. We are recovering from the Covid pandemic the quickest thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s extensive policy changes,” she said.
Attacking the opposition and the Congress, Nirmala Sitharaman attacked the phrase “gareebi hatao,” which means “eliminate poverty,” coined by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saying, “We have been hearing “gareebi hatao” for 60 years. But was it taken away? Previous administrations promised to end poverty with a postdated cheque.
“This was altered by Prime Minister Modi. Our system of government is changing.” “Words like ‘banega, milega’ are no longer used; instead, ‘ban gaya, mil gaya, aa gaya’ are used instead,” she emphasised, highlighting how the administration is keeping its pledges.
“Due to corruption, UPA wasted a generation. We have experienced great growth and low inflation under the NDA, she remarked, adding, “We believe in empowering everyone and appeasing no one.”
PM Modi to Reply Oppositions No-Confidence Motion
PM Modi is going to reply shortly to the Thursday Lok Sabha no-confidence motion discussion.
Today is the final day of debate on the I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s motion of no-confidence in the central government, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the House. The opposition and the ruling coalitions engaged in a furious debate over the Manipur violence and other issues during the last two days of the motion.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, a minister for the Union, slammed the opposition today, insulting the INDIA bloc and claiming that those who moved the vote of no confidence do not believe in it.
At 4 p.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to respond to the discussion. Voting will take place after the PM’s address, and the results are already known because the odds are firmly in the government’s advantage.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that in order to force Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the Manipur issue in the House, the opposition had to file a vote of no-confidence.
As the PM had to address the issue in Parliament, the motion’s influence was clear. The opposition sought to understand the PM’s position while lacking the numbers to overthrow the government. Adhir highlighted the potential for victory and the government’s numerical advantage while also emphasising their desire to find solutions.
No Confidence Motion
The opposition put forth a motion of no confidence in the Modi administration on July 26, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took it up.
However since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies hold a majority in the Lok Sabha, Modi’s administration won’t lose the vote.
A resolution of no-confidence against the Council of Ministers may be submitted at any moment by any member of the Lok Sabha who has the backing of 50 of their peers.
Following that, there is a debate about the motion. The Treasury Benches address the issues brought up by the lawmakers who support the motion by outlining the shortcomings of the administration.
Points to be Noted
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently facing his second no-confidence vote.
The first such resolution against the Modi administration was submitted in 2018 over the decision to grant Andhra Pradesh special category status, however it was ultimately defeated.
