One very unique story starred Kangana Ranaut. An Indian girl, “Rani,” has set up an arranged marriage with an Indian-educated, well-settled boy from her parents. The girl who never steps out of the house alone. went to a whole new country by herself. and realised her self-worth in womanhood. During her trip, she meets new people, makes new friends, discovers the world and life and comes back as a changed person, ready to take control of her life.
The whole idea of the story is that the woman does not need a man to be happy.
2. Thappad
Various movies discuss the topic of domestic violence in Indian households. But this Taapsee Pannu-starred one has a different take on this.
The film is not just a social commentary on the socio-emotional impact of domestic violence but also its larger panorama into the treatment of womanhood within the legal frame of marriage that is normalised in a country.
Thappad means a slap, story rotates around the plot of the happily married couple who once got into a fight regarding his failure and out of frustration the man slaps his wife. And the woman decides to file a case. That it is not appropriate to slap their wife.
Even her lawyer says why should she file a complaint it is just a slap! And she replies with
“Yes! Just a slap, par nahi maar sakta”
In the end, man realises where he went wrong and they do a fresh start.
3. Kahani
A story of the woman. A fight of a woman. On the one hand where all Bollywood movies show women as Glamorous Dolls. This movie presents another side of an Indian woman. The hidden rebel in her wakes up when it comes to her and her family.
Vidya Balan breaks the typecast role of the helpless damsel in distress. As the movie portrays woman’s fearless fight for justice while delving into themes of feminism and motherhood in a patriarchal society.
Kahani won several accolades including best screenplay, best editing, and a special jury award at the 60th National Film Awards.
Apart from this Mardani, the action movie starred by Rani Mukherjee where she played the role of the powerful police officer was a big hit for Bollywood.
Raazi starred by Alia Bhatt a true story based on historical events and won many awards and appreciation. Marry Kom we know the name and history too; Priyanka Chopra played the role and nailed it. Recent released Darlings of Alia Bhatt also portrayed the rebellious side of the women.
Bollywood is now walking towards the path of equality for women not fully but partially. The audience is hoping to see more of this.
