Yesterday, Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, who led a coalition government (BJP-JD(U)), resigned and parted ways with the BJP. He has formed an alliance with Tejashwi Yadav from RJD.
Nitish Kumar returned as the CM in November 2020, heading the coalition government. His recent decision to part ways with BJP has turned the relationship with NDA (National Democratic Alliance) sour.
He has allied with his foe-turned-old friend RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal). Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar’s Ex-CM Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son from RJD, was seen alongside Kumar.
Sources have also speculated that Nitish Kumar might stand as a candidate from the opposition party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP, after being stripped of its power in the state staged a demonstration condemning the ‘betrayal’ who had helped them join the government through the ‘back door’.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “he should first try to win a state election on his own, without using an alliance as a crutch”.
Poll Strategist Prashant Kishor’s stance on Nitish Kumar’s decision.
In an interview with CNN News 18, he mentioned that the CM was not “comfortable” with alliance and therefore formed another one. The new government will be on watch all the time as both parties are known for having contradicting stances on several issues.
When asked how Kumar would justify the corruption allegations against Tejashwi Yadav, Kishor said, “when taking such a huge U-turn, sometimes have to set the moral high ground aside He would have factored this in when making his decision.”
Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij called him “migratory bird” stating that his nature to jump from one branch to another.
The events following his resignation.
On the 10th of August, Nitish Kumar took an oath as Bihar’s Cheif Minister again, and Tejashwi Yadav from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) took the oath as the new Deputy Chief Minister. It is the eighth time since he first became the chief minister of state in 2000. He remained the CM for seven days back then.
The arithmetic of Rajya Sabha will see a change.
The tally of NDA (National Democratic Alliance) in the house JD(U) (Janata Dal (United)) will come down to 100 – far off from the halfway mark of 119 in the strength of 237.
