Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said on Monday that if bamboo resources in the Northeast are fully used, the area may significantly contribute to the country’s economy.
The Chief Minister spoke at the Aizawl forum on “untapped eco-tourism potential and the significance of bamboo in the NE area.” In honor of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Mizoram government’s planning & program execution and tourism departments collaborated with the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC) to host the event. Zoramthanga stressed the importance of bamboo development in Mizoram and the Northeast. He believes that discovering techniques to maximize bamboo resources and identify the best bamboo species is critical.Â
“With collaboration between states and the central government, the Northeast area can be a big contributor to the country’s economic growth through bamboo production and usage,” the chief minister stated. The state’s tourist potential was also discussed by Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte, who was present at the event.Â

He claims that green tourism, sports, and adventure tourism, religious tourism, and other forms of tourism may help Mizoram’s economy reach new heights. He encouraged more private investors to join the burgeoning tourist business. The state’s tourist administration, according to Royte, is presently working on a post-covid strategy and plan for the state’s tourism comeback. “To restore destination Mizoram, we have devised a thorough recovery strategy that focuses on responsible and sustainable standards,” he added.Â
The tourism minister believed that Mizoram would soon become a favorite destination for domestic and foreign tourists, given its location in the heart of one of the world’s most significant biodiversity hotspots, which is blessed with rich and unique kinds of flora and wildlife as well as optimal climatic conditions. According to Royte, India’s geopolitical outlook on the globe has shifted, and the Centre has launched its Act East Policy.Â
With connection as a high priority, he stated that the Centre is working on many significant projects to improve inter-connectivity within the North East and neighboring nations. He went on to say that the opportunity created by India’s policy shift will make the Northeastern states the primary gateway to Southeast Asia.Â
The Government of Mizoram is working hard to bring about a strategic shift in the tourist landscape, with cooperation and support from the Ministry of Tourism, he said, adding that the state will transform dramatically in the coming years. Dr. Renu Sharma, the state chief secretary, spoke about the efforts made by the state tourism department in designing and executing various tourist activities to make Mizoram an eco-tourism destination while keeping sustainability and environmental conservation in mind.Â
She emphasized that eco-tourism is being pushed in Mizoram to contribute value to the environment and create sustainable tourism. According to her, it’s a type of tourism that promotes environmental values by focusing on visiting and studying natural regions that are mostly unaffected by human activity.Â
