Of course, a woman can cook, take care of children, work independently, buy a house on her own, and ride a bike.
Gender roles and responsibilities are often a hot topic to debate on. At present, when social media is boosting the confidence of men in wearing makeup and sarees, it is evident that roles abiding by gender may not exist in the future.
Meanwhile, a woman driving is often a subject of mockery, and few stood out beyond this humourless notion.
Here are some of the incredible women who throttle their passion regardless of social norms :
Aishwarya Pissay
Making the country proud ever before, Aishwarya is the first Indian athlete to win a title in motorsports. She secured the first position in the FIM Bajas World Cup and the second in the junior’s category at 24.
Aishwarya made her debut in the MTV show at 18 and rode from Gujarat (Rann of Kutch) to Meghalaya (Cherrapunji) in 24 days. Since then, the woman has been unstoppable and won six National titles in Circuit Racing and Rally Championship together.
Holding her passion for bikes with a tight grip, in 2018, she also became the first Indian woman to compete in the Baja Aragon Rally in Spain.
Maria Costello
Maria is a British motorcycle racer, known for her Guinness World Record for being the fastest woman. She completed the lap of the Isle of Man TT course at a speed of 114.73 mph until Jenny Tinmouth broke her record.
Costello was the first woman in the history of the Isle of Man motorcycle races who stood on the podium when she secured third place in the Ultra Lightweight category of the 2005 Manx Grand Prix.
Costello has won a total of eight Manx Grand Prix Silver Replicas and one TT Bronze Replica. These are trophies awarded only to those who finish within a percentage of the winner’s time. Being an exceptional woman, Maria Costello aspires to reach their highest potential.
Neharika Yadav
Neharika is a perfect woman depicting the multiple roles that a woman has to play in her life. Neharika is a full-time dedicated dentist carrying her passion for riding like a crown.
“Once a month, I’m at the Buddh International circuit with my group of riders and racers, practising for upcoming races.
I also run my dental clinic for six days a week,” Neharika stated in an interview. Known as the fastest lady super biker, Neharika is strongly dedicated to her profession and passion.
She has already completed 2000 kilometres at the Buddh International Circuit, having first made a pilgrimage to the track as this biking enthusiast. She is a role model for many and exemplifies that a woman can handle multiple careers successfully.
Laia Sanz
Laia Sanz is a Spanish sportsperson. Laia is also the best rider in the female category with ten victories, which sets the tone for her pace, competitiveness and adaptation to all types of terrain.
Besides, she is also a member of the Spanish Female Team in the Trial des Nations, helping the team win five times. In 2010, she competed in the Women’s Enduro World Championship for the first time.
In 2011, she participated for the first time in the Dakar Rally, winning the Female motorcycle category and finishing 39th overall, a position that she managed to repeat a year later.
Roshni Misbah
Belonging to a conservative family, Roshni left everyone startled when she rode a bike to college and became an inspiration for many. “Unlike other girls who ride scooty, I wanted a bike,” Roshni once said.
She is popularly known as the Hijabi biker and made a buzz on social media with her fearless attitude and identity. After riding her father’s bike, Roshni worked part-time to save for her bike and finally bought Bajaj Avenger Cruiser 220.
Esha Gupta
Esha Gupta is one of the rare women to travel solo to many states in India. She quit her full-time MNC job and has followed her passion since then. Many questioned her solo travelling, but she kept riding positively and travelled seventeen states, 32078 km in 110 days.
“Biking is stereotyped for men, but when people realise that I am trying something different, they encourage me. I get more thumbs up from women I meet, and the girls take me as a heartening inspiration.” Gupta asserted.
These are few honourable mentions. There are many women out there riding passion at their full potential. They proved that if a woman can take the burn while cooking, she can take injuries while riding too. If she can ride a bicycle, she can fly a jet plane too. She is strong either way.
