Rashtrapati Bhavan Library to be Accessible Online for Citizens
President Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of her 65th birthday, is taking significant steps to bring Rashtrapati Bhavan closer to the people. By implementing various initiatives, she aims to ensure that the resources of Rashtrapati Bhavan are not limited to officials and residents alone. This inclusive approach follows the footsteps of former Presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Pranab Mukherjee, who also made efforts to bridge the gap between the presidency and the public.
Statehood Days Celebrated in Rashtrapati Bhavan
To establish a stronger connection between the states and the presidential estate, President Droupadi Murmu plans to celebrate statehood days within Rashtrapati Bhavan itself. Previously, these celebrations were confined to the respective state bhavans in the national capital. This initiative aims to foster a sense of unity and belonging among the states, enhancing their association with the presidential institution.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Library Opens Doors to Researchers and the Public
Currently, the process of digitizing the Rashtrapati Bhavan library is underway, transforming it into a digital archive. This remarkable library houses an extensive assortment of 33,000 books, with a notable collection of 2,000 rare works. Once the digitization process is complete, the entire library will be accessible online for the public. Furthermore, a separate library named after India’s 13th President, Pranab Mukherjee, will also be open to the public. This secondary library, located within the presidential estate, will provide both online and offline resources to researchers, students, and anyone seeking knowledge.
The oldest book in the library, titled “A Catalogue of the Original Works of William Hogarth,” was published in 1795, showcasing the historical significance of the collection. While the main library’s contents will only be available online, the Pranab Mukherjee Library will offer physical access to its resources. The arrangements being made aim to facilitate seamless exploration and research opportunities for individuals with varied interests.
