R.Kelly, a famous singer is sentenced for 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He was convicted for sexually abusing underage girls and women as well as misusing his fame to lure women into this. He continued this for the last 20 years. There are about 9 counts of abuse against women, girls as well as boys.Â
The sentence was enforced after nine months of his conviction on his charges. The US district judge Ann Donnelly in Brooklyn federal court said that the evidence brought the singer’s indifference to human suffering and sheer brutality towards his victims to light. Many victims of the singer testified about their horrifying exploitation.
The jury convicted the singer after the victims said that he used his team of managers to meet girls and teach them to obey him. This amounted to his criminal enterprise according to the prosecutors. Â
 R.Kelly taught victims love is enslavement
After the verdict, the judge talked to R. Kelly and said that these crimes were calculated and planned carefully and he was executed for almost 25 years. She further adds that the singer taught the victims that love is enslavement and violence.Â
During the trial, The victims alleged that he used to force his rules on them and force them to follow them. They would require his permission to eat or to use the bathroom. If they don’t do it according to him, they have to write apology letters to him to absolve him. The victims further said that their accusations were ignored due to their color and they lost belief in the judiciary and came out to oust the disgraced singer.
A victim in her testimony said that he made her do things that broke the spirit. She wished to die because of how it felt. Another victim testified that with every addition of a victim, the wickedness in him grew. After the sentence was released, the victims said that they have reclaimed their names and life and are no longer the preyed-on individuals.Â
The judge told R. Kelly that this case is not about sex. It is about violence, cruelty and control. She further said that he left in his wake a string of broken lives.Â
But after all the allegations, R. Kelly still denies everything. His lawyer Jennifer Bonjean said that he disagrees with the characterizations made about him. The Grammy- winner did not give any statement and any reaction on hearing the penalty. The penalty includes a fine of USD 100,000.Â
After the sentence was released, his lawyers said R. Kelly was devastated but he will repeal it again.
