Earlier, in the morning of the ninth International Yoga Day Congress tweeted a picture of Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru performing yoga in which they thanked Pt. Nehru for popularizing yoga and making it a part of national policy.
In response to this Tharoor tweeted ” Indeed! We should also acknowledge those who revived and popularized Yoga, including the government and Ministry of External Affairs. “Tharoor expressed his belief that Yoga holds significant importance as a component of our global soft power, consistently advocating for it, and he finds it gratifying to witness its acknowledgment.
Earlier after the Karnataka’s State Legislative Assembly Election Shashi Tharoor forewarned Congress to not get contended after winning the Karnataka’s assembly elections as Congress won in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but it performed badly in Lok Sabha elections.
International Yoga Day: Background
International Yoga Day is observed worldwide on June 21 to spread awareness of and benefits of practicing yoga. The idea of observing International Yoga Day was first proposed by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.
He suggested June 21 as International Yoga Day because June 21 it is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
The proposal of Narendra Modi received overwhelming support from the UN leaders, which resulted in the adoption of a resolution on December 11, 2014, announcing June 21 as International Yoga Day. It was sponsored by 177 countries highlighting their support for the same.

Yogi Adityanath expressed that yoga is a valuable contribution from India aimed at promoting the well-being of humanity.
