Street Dance of China is finally returning with a new season in the month of August with their first female captain.
According to tweets on the Chinese blogging platform, Weibo, the fifth season of the Chinese dance show Street Dance of China will include a new lineup of captains. The captains of the upcoming season are Wang Yibo, Han Geng, Nathan Lee and Xin Liu.
It is a reality show in which teams of high-level dancers from all around China and the world compete for the title of China’s finest street dancer. ‘Street Dance of China’ is China’s first reality show centred on street dance.
Because street dance culture in China has been flourishing, there is a robust competition scene and an enormous pool of talent to draw from. It also promotes the talent, sense of community, and multiculturalism of its dancers.
The competition features a diverse spectrum of dance forms. The dancing forms and music selections frequently combine a love of Chinese culture with a broad cosmopolitan mentality, fusing traditional narrative storytelling with different genre experimentation.
Young and old generations of dancers collaborate on some of the most detailed dance pieces. The four captains each choose dancers from a diverse pool of contestants to join their teams, who will then compete against one another.
Wang Yibo and Han Geng, two of the four leaders, have previously featured on the show. The other two captains are Nathan Lee (aka Lee Seung Hyun), a pop musician and actor, and Xin Liu (aka Liu Yuxin), a rapper and dancer who previously featured as a participant on Street Dance of China’s second season and as a special guest during the third season.
Xin Liu, a 25-year-old dancer, will be the first female captain in Street Dance of China. The fans are excited to see her dance and her leadership skills. It is Wang Yibo’s third time as a captain. Yibo is extremely popular in and out of China, attracting a lot of viewers from all around the world. And it is the fourth time as a leader for Hang Geng. Geng knows almost 56 Chinese traditional dances. He is a former member of South Korean boy group, Super Junior.
Previous Seasons
The first season of ‘Street Dance of China’ featured Hang Geng, Show Lo, Z Tao and Jackson Yee with around 400 professional street dancers competing against each other. In the second season only one captain changed, Vanness Wu replaced Z Tao. The four captains stood guard over the Chinese-style ancient Beijing street, the Guangzhou arcade street, the Shanghai Shikumen street, and the graffiti street.
There was an entire new batch of captains in the third season. Lay Zhang, Jackson Wang, Wang Yibo and Wallace Chung were the four new captains of the show. Dancers came from all walks of life and represented a wide range of genres, including old-school to new-school hip-hop, ballet to wacking, urban to locking, and many more.
The fourth season had one new leader, Henry Lau instead of Jackson Wang and the return of Hang Gen in place of Wallace Chung. This season’s new Sino-foreign confrontation upgrading, as well as the new competitive system of the star teacher professional dancer reality show, provided dancers with a new definition of trend culture.
