A new government was formulated by the Taliban as they succeeded in confiscating power over Afghanistan. Since last year, the Taliban has continued to violate Human Rights. They have gravely failed in establishing “an inclusive political system”, the EU External Action Service (EEAS) said.
The European Union enlightened that the Taliban has persistently infringed women’s rights by denying girls access to secondary education. They have forcefully restricted free movements and have isolated women from economic and social gatherings. As per the rules, certain obligations have been laid in their clothing.
The cases of Domestic violence have been skyrocketing. The mechanisms which protected women and children were disassembled. The EU agency blamed the radical movement for abusing ethnic groups (Hazaras and Shia people).
“One year ago, the Taliban broke their promises towards the Afghan people and negotiated a settlement to the decades-long Afghan conflict”, said EEAS in a statement.
Afghanistan reflects a picture of pain
Taliban is all set to mark the prominent first anniversary of control and power over the land of Afghanistan. Having said that, several concerns encircling the security situation have aroused as ISIL(ISIS) has carried out deadly attacks.
Just days before the assassination of a Senior Taliban Scholar by ISIL, a US drone eliminated al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, which drastically elevated Western concerns about a haven for armed groups in the country (Afghanistan).
Recalling the violations and abuses encompassing extra-judicial killing, ill behaviour towards people, intimidation, detentions, and torture are prevailing in the country.
Taliban has effectively established draconian restrictions in the country.
The majority of countries formally refused to accept the rule of the Taliban as they levied harsh and insignificant restrictions against girls and women. No escape route has been offered to them as the Taliban bans them from accessing Health care facilities. They ain’t permitted to travel solo unless they are accompanied by men. Investigative, critical reporting was banned. The journalists who came forward with a strong stance were incarcerated and beaten.
Precisely, the EU has restored minimal presence in Afghanistan. It hasn’t failed to provide humanitarian support to the Afghan population.
UNAMA’S report & findings
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) released a report that connected the lost ends. One stance stands in August 2021, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan and another reflected the human rights situation in Afghanistan, following the Taliban takeover.
The report has however blemished the ideologies of the Taliban. The report further contemplated a noteworthy reduction in armed violence, between mid-August 2021 and mid-June 2022. A count of 2106 casualties (700 killed, 1406 wounded) has been reported.
“According to the report, the majority of civilian casualties were attributed to targeted attacks by the armed group self-identified “Islamic State in Iraq and the levant-Khorasan Province” against ethnic and religious minority communities in places where they go about their daily lives”, said the sources.
What Anas Haqqani (Taliban Leader) has to say?
In an interview, taken by Al Jazeera, the Taliban leader Anas Haqqani disclosed various outs and abouts of the transformations which have been implemented in Afghanistan during the last year. In the last 40 years, the central government has never taken control of the whole country but the Taliban made this a reality. From corner to corner, followed by every respective inch, the Taliban has kept an intricate eye on every matter. No special military groups are functioning. The central government without any external help, levies, or foreign aid has successfully paid the salaries of the employees across all state institutes. According to Haqqani, these steps have been fortuitous for both Taliban and Afghanistan.
He further stated that since the withdrawal of the US and NATO forces, the graph of state violation has decreased significantly and they have continued to surround themselves with the righteousness of the “Doha Agreement.”
When questioned about the promises made by the them, Haqqani backlashed that foreign occupation that had control over Afghanistan failed miserably in all aspects. They had 20 years still failed to restore security. However, expecting so much from the Taliban who ruled over for only a year isn’t justified.
Afghanistan and the rest of the world are parting toward different tangents. What comes next in the fate of Afghan citizens is unfathomable as Taliban leaders can’t stop putting sugar-coated phrases in front of the world.
