Fashion icon and muse to both men and women alike, Timothee Chalamet, is the first man to go solo on the cover of British Vogue’s 106-year history. The 26-year-old star told the outlet it’s an honour that feels “extraordinary” and “weird”.
“When [success] came my way, I felt very particular that I didn’t want people and I really didn’t want to see myself cashing in,”
He told the magazine.
Styled by editor-in-chief Edward Enniful for the magazine’s October cover, the “Call me by your name” star can be seen flaunting a pearl choker on the cover, with other pictures showing him in a pink wig and leather pants. Born in 1995, Timothee’s cover is 90s-inspired.
“A man on the print cover? Perhaps I was waiting for the right man,”
Edward Enninful writes in his October 2022 editor’s letter.
From bedazzled harnesses and thrifted Converse on the Met Gala red carpet to his latest backless halter neck top at the Venice Film Festival, which went viral. Timothee has been an inspiration to all with his fashion-forward choices.
Timothee Chalamet represents the “zeitgeist.” The editor went on to say that when people look back in ten or twenty years, they will see that “these were the people who represented that time.”
In the accompanying interview, Chalamet discussed the realisation that he had to shift into an “adulting mindset” when COVID struck and the conviction that he is the “captain” of his “fate.”
“When COVID hit, it required me to take a step back and be humbled to the idea that the greatest rock star…No, I don’t want to use that word, sorry, sorry. Scratch rock star. But [everyone has to] deal with, like, taxes and the dentist and real adulting, you know? I should have been trying to get my adult feet under myself a little bit earlier than I did,”
“I’ve always paid my taxes, I always went to the dentist, but I’m suddenly very aware of that,” he added.
As he grows older, Chalamet hopes to improve his culinary skills; right now, he can only cook deviled eggs. He reasoned that “as I adultify” would be a useful skill to develop.
Timothee Chalamet describes himself as having an “old man perspective” caused by “the empath thing, thinking for everyone in the room, the sort of misplaced idea, this sort of illusion of control based on trying to feel for everyone.”
Chalamet didn’t say much about his history-making cover, except that he didn’t want to make a “statement”.
“The nature of the world now, you know… It felt right to not make it too statement-y, “
While Timothee might not have been making this historical moment a big deal, fans were losing it on Twitter:

Some, on the other hand, mentioned that it was Zayn Malik who was the first man to be on the cover of the British Vogue solo.
“No hate to timothee but zayn malik did it first in 2018 he was the first man to appear solo on the cover of any “British vogue” medium, so technically he’s the first.” one user tweeted

“I knew y’all were trash but I didn’t think you were also racist. Zayn was the first solo male to grace the cover of British vogue back in 2018, 4tears ago.
I have nothing against Timothee chamalamadingdong but you, Vogue, were wrong for this.”

“In 2019 you said zayn malik is the first clearly stating “any medium” and now are erasing it with a white guy? You guys are the fucking issue.

It was later cleared that Zayn Malik was the first man on the digital cover of British Vogue, while Timothee Chalamet is the first man on a print edition.
