HOT AIR BALLOON CRASHES IN CAPPADOCIA, 2 TOURISTS DIED.
Two Spanish tourists lost their lives and three were injured when a Hot air balloon crashed in Turkey. The incident took place on the land of Cappadocia, whose rocks and hot air balloon rides are famous. At least 28 people were on board when this incident took place.
The hot air balloon started from the district of Avanos at the point of sunrise. The accident happened due to an unexpected increase in wind speed, the governor of Nevsehir stated.
He gave a statement “During the landing of the balloon, which was carrying 28 passengers and two crew members, two Spanish nationals lost their lives, while three Spanish citizens were injured,”.
He further added, “The treatment of those injured is continuing in hospitals in our city and they are not life-threatening,”
A private company running the hot air balloon ride that took off from Zelve, the site of the Avana district at 7:25 am made a bumpy landing in the Killik region of the Kavak town at 8:50 am due to an unexpected increase in wind speed, the local Governor said.
The three injured people were taken to various hospitals in the Central Anatolian Province, and they are out of danger, the officials said.
The office mentioned that it has started judicial and administrative investigations to find out the cause of the accident.
CAPPADOCIA, A TOURIST PLACE
The hot air balloons ride is a famous attraction in Cappadocia. It is famous for flying over valleys and sightseeing volcanic fairy chimney formations. Many valleys are formed from natural rock formations which erupted around 3 to 9 million years ago, some cave hotels and beautiful rock carvings featuring historic monasteries, Cappadocia is the heartland of hot air balloons ride. Not only foreigners but even local residents enjoy this ride and the interesting thing is it is one of the beautiful locations where visitors can enjoy the balloon ride all over the year.
About 2.5 billion people visit this historic land and many of them come to enjoy this exotic balloon ride every year.
But this is not the first time an accident took place, in April 2017, an accident on a balloon ride took place which resulted in the death of France’s Deputy Consul Vincent Fabien Christophe Caumontat Touja, according to the people present on the ride, the cause of the accident happened due to a fight between a passenger and a pilot.
In the same year, in February, a Danish tourist lost his life after falling from a balloon ride.
In 2009, a British tourist was killed in a balloon crash.
Coming under a Preserved World Heritage Site Under UNESCO, Cappadocia is famous for its historical regions located on the borders of six Central Anatolian Provinces.
