Earlier there were reports that Twitter might be thinking of charging a 20-dollar-per-month fee for the accounts that have a blue tick. The Elon Musk-bought social media platform is considering offering verified accounts to only those users who will be paying $19.99 a month as a subscription service.
Twitter may “snatch” away the blue tick of existing users if they don’t pay the fees within 90 days.
It’s also unclear if it will exempt some verified users such as several international organizations and or charity accounts who are verified on Twitter.
It is being reported that Twitter will update its existing feature known as “Twitter Blue” which costs $4.99 a month currently. It is available in four countries US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The verification feature will be included in Twitter Blue.
According to the sources, initially, the pay-for-blue tick feature would be rolled out in these four countries.
The Verge was the first one to report on this planning on Sunday. However, Twitter did not respond immediately.
There has been a lot happening since Musk took over Twitter. Firstly, he fired the top office bearers including CEO Paraga Agarwal. There are many firings and resignations going on even now.
