The U.S. Strategy
According to the statement from the White House, the US is implementing a strategy to work more closely with nations in the sub-Saharan Africa and push back the impact of China and Russia in the area.
This approach re-frames the region’s relevance to U.S. National Security Interests.
In order to fight harmful operations by the People’s Republic of China, Russia and other international players, Washington wants to take additional steps to support open societies.
The statement added that the U.S. will work with partners and regional allies to stop the current wave of authoritarianism and military takeovers, and that it would assist Africa in achieving democratic and security dividends.
Combating the COVID-19 and its related economic and societal repercussions is another primary focus. These difficulties have been made worse by food shortages and problems with the supply chain resulting from Russia’s aggressive war in Ukraine.
The new method also seeks for more US aid for sub-Saharan African nations affected by climate change. “The area stands to endure among the most serious impacts of climate change even though it is accountable for relatively low emissions per capita”, the research stated.
With the goal of achieving a sustainable and low-carbon economy, Washington will use our power, development aid, and money to help African partners adapt and build resilience to climate impacts.
The news comes as US secretary of state Antony Blinken started his trip to the area on Sunday with a visit to South Africa. However, President Joe Biden has made plans to host a conference in Washington, D.C., from December 13 to 15, where he will invite African heads of state and government.
