o Koshyari allegedly said that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are taken out of Maharashtra, then the state will be left penniless.
During a speech, Mr Koshyari had said that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are taken out of Maharashtra, specifically Mumbai and Thane, no money would be left in the state.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray soon lashed out at the Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari who had started the controversy by saying that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are taken out of Maharashtra, the state will have no currency left. Accusing the Governor of creating differences between Hindus, he claimed that the remark is insulting to ‘Marathi Manoos’, that is, Marathi speaking people as well as Marathi pride.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray slammed Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s remarks on the state, stating that the Governor crossed many limits by insulting Marathi people and Marathi pride. He said that he does not wish to insult someone occupying the post of Governor. He said that he respects his position but Bhagat Singh Koshyari insulted Marathis and that there is rage among the people against the remarks made.
Thackeray said that the Governor is trying to divide the society on the basis of religion and is crossing every limit. “The government should contemplate whether to send him back home or to prison,” Thackeray said, demanding an apology from the Governor. During a speech, Mr Koshyari had said that “If Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are taken out of Maharashtra, from Mumbai and Thane, then no money would be left here.”
“Mumbai would not be able to hold the position as the financial capital of the country,” he added. Thackeray said he cannot bear to keep quiet over the matter just to respect the position held by Mr Koshyari. “I won’t say anything about the post of the Governor but the person occupying that chair should also respect that chair,” he stated.
The Sena chief accused the Governor of being “in a hurry to build temples” meanwhile Covid cases are on the rise and people are dying. He also claimed that the Governor had taken a jab Savitribai Phule in the past. “Now Marathi people are being slighted in Maharashtra itself,” he said.
“The Governor is supposed to be the messenger of the President, who carries the ideas of the President throughout the country. But if that person makes the same errors as others then who is to take action against him? He has insulted Marathi people and their pride,” Thackeray added.
Speaking in a press conference at his residence ‘Matoshree’, Mr Thackeray said that, “The disgust that the governor holds in his mind against Maratha people has eventually come out.” He demanded that the Governor offer an apology to the people of Maharashtra. The ex Maharashtra chief minister said that when he was fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and people were dying, the governor was more busy with places of religious worship being reopened.
”Koshyari had not approved the 12 names from inside the governor’s quota for the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He has also made offensive remarks against the state’s social reformer Savitribai Phule,” Thackeray alleged. Reacting to the incident earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday slammed Governor Koshyari’s speech and urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to also condemn the comments made by the Governor.
“The Marathi people get insulted as soon as a BJP chief minister comes to power in the state. CM Shinde should at least condemn the Governor. This is an insult to hard-working Marathi people,” Raut tweeted. Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole has said that the party condemns the remarks made by Koshyari. “He needs to apologize to the public and be removed from his position with immediate effect,” he stated.
