The US brawl to maintain unipolar world order, as it supplies weapons to Kyiv.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, the US has tried hard to maintain its hegemony. From providing humanitarian assistance to high-tech weapons the US has not left an opportunity to make its appearance on the global stage.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made some remarks on the US while addressing the opening ceremony of the tenth Moscow conference on international security held in the Russian capital on august 16. It was attended by defense chiefs from 35 countries.
In this conference, Putin accused Washington’s alleged efforts to maintain global hegemony. He further added, “the situation in Ukraine shows that the United States is trying to drag the conflict out…,”.
Putin lashed out at the US for supplying weapons to Kyiv. Washington has been on the scene since the war began providing Ukraine with a security assistance package.
Change in strategy
The White House initially was cautious and hence, helped Ukrainians take down the powerful Russian military without deploying American combat troops into the war zone.
U.S. support for Kyiv has been up for debate since the initial phases of the war but it was successful in providing Kyiv agency to manage the war and reducing the risk of Ukrainian forces being more dependent on U.S. support.
A glimpse of total assistance by the U.S.
The latest aid package, which is the 15th such installment, brings the U.S. commitment to more than $7 billion since Russia’s late February invasion of Ukraine.
US department of defense inventories for Ukraine’s self-defense till august 2021 of up to $400 million.
As reported by CNBC the US will supply ordnance to Kyiv which includes heavy artillery platforms, like howitzers and high mobility artillery rocket system or HIMARS.
HIMARS is being manufactured by a defense giant called Lockheed Martin. They are designed to shoot a variety of missiles from a mobile 5-ton truck.
The Ukrainian military is also being trained on how to use these high-tech ordnances.
As if this wasn’t enough, soon the US announced the authorized the eleventh drawdown of equipment from DOD inventories for Ukraine since august 2021, which includes:
· High mobility artillery rocket systems and ammunition;
· Two air surveillance radars;
· 1000 javelins and 50 command launch units;
· 6000 anti-armor weapons;
· Four Mi-17 helicopters;
· 15 tactical vehicles;
· 15,000 155mm artillery rounds
· Five counter-artillery radars
How did the US meddle with the Russian plan?
Russian goal was to capture the capital with utmost importance without much military assistance. But soon there was a change in plan as Russia failed to capture Kyiv, it hawked the eastern Donbas region.
This imagined easy victory has turned into a prolonged war, owing to the supply of weapons to Ukraine by western nations.
Precision artillery provided by the US has enabled Ukraine to counter the Russian supply facilities inside Moscow controlled region.
Early on Tuesday, there was a fire at the site in the kremlin-controlled Crimea where ammunition was being stored temporarily. TASS Russia’s state-owned news agency cited the defense ministry as saying the blast was a result of “sabotage”.
Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu remarked at the Moscow conference that along with military supplies to Ukraine, western allies have provided intelligence information to help the Ukrainian military to operate the weapons with utmost accuracy.
He added that the US is trying to ferment global instability. This remark was made instead during the recent visit of US house speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
With Ukraine at stake, this game is being played by US and Russia!
