Brahmastra trailer garnered an inordinate amount of positive and negative responses within 3 days of its launch.
After 8 years of waiting, when Ayan Mukherjee launched the trailer of Brahmastra, the response was overwhelming. Critics affirmed that the film is sure to be a visual delight. Moreover, the never-seen-before VFX got the viewers excited about a quality sci-fi Bollywood watch.
Within hours of the release, the trailer hit 10 million views!
However, the ascending ecstasy came to an abrupt halt when Twitter started trending with #BoycottBrahmastra on 17 June.
The reason?
A Twitter account posted a hawk-eye picture of Ranbir Kapoor entering the temple with his shoes. “Shiva” is seen running across a temple courtyard and ringing the temple bell in white sneakers.
In the Hindu religion, it is mandatory to take off shoes before entering the premises of a religious place. It is taken as a mark of respect for the deity residing in the temple.
#BoycottBrahmastra
Netizens condemned the actor and the movie team for disrespecting the Sanatana religion. Many accused the entire Bollywood of always hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. People urged each other to unite and #BoycottBhrahmastra to win justice for the religion.

For insulting the Hindu God in the temple openly for the whole world to see. Why so much systematic insult of Hindu Devas n Devis? The Censor Board must also pull up the team for systematically insulting the Hindus.
A Twitter user even chose to describe Bollywood as ‘Urduwood’. Though the tweet itself stated no explicit justification for the term in the tweet.
Entering Temple with shoes, this is what we can expect from Urduwood. Bollywood never misses a chance to hurt our sentiments towards Sanatana Dharma.#BoycottBollywood #BoycottBrahmastra pic.twitter.com/Pa5hmX99Ag

Amidst the slew of boycotting hashtags, some people did defend the makers. They refused to nitpick a simple oversight and called out others for making a mountain out of a molehill.
Brahmastra – Visuals that rival Hollywood
With video effects rivaling Hollywood, Brahmastra is setting the bar of expectations high. It is a sci-fi film drawing inspiration from Indian mythologies. It is the first part of the Brahmastra trilogy.
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are the leading pair. The trailer also reveals Amitabh Bacchan, Nagarjun, Mouni Roy, and Dimple Kapadia in major roles. The buzz has it that the mythological fiction will also feature Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in special or cameo roles.
Cinephiles are positively thrilled about the unique storyline and the star-studded cast. The movie is set to release on 9 September 2022.
