Soon after Prime Minister of Britain Boris Johnson was compelled to resign, Britain’s former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak becomes the top contender for the post of Prime Minister of Britain. Johnson resigned after almost half the payroll showcased non-confidence in him on July 7.

BID TO REPLACE JOHNSON
Sunak, an Indian-origin British government official, made the declaration after leaving his position as finance minister to run for prime minister.
Long regarded as Johnson’s most likely successor, he The most current polls and the support of the conservative members, however, finally led to his election as the new leader.
Former finance minister, Sunak 42 contested for his candidature as the new PM of Britain by sharing the slick video and running the campaign Ready for Rishi on Twitter. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he won many applauds for shoring up the economy of Britain.

In the lane of contenders, there are several other candidates beside him who will be contending for this post.

First woman Defence Minister of UK and currently a trade minister, she is emerging as the second most favourable choice. She proclaimed her candidature by posting a video to social media on Sunday, July 10.
She is the most potential candidate after Sunak who could win maximum votes from the Conservative Party.

Ex-foreign and health secretary Hunt, 55 is another important person. He had earlier contested in 2019 elections against Boris Johnson but was defeated and now he too confirms his candidature on July 9 for the prime ministerial elections.
Hunt also declares that if he comes into power Brexiteer Ester McVey will be his deputy. He claims to cut corporate taxes from 25 to 15 %.
Among others names are Liz Truss, Sajid Javid, Nadhim Zahawi, Grant Shapps, Tom Tugendhat, Kemi Badenoch and Sunella Braverman.
On the other hand, Britain’s Defence Secretary Ben Wallace pulls out of his bid to contest to replace Boris Johnson and become the next Prime minister of the UK on July 9. “It has not been an easy choice to make, but my focus is on my current job and keeping this great country safe”- he tweeted. Later, also wished luck to all the contesting candidates and hope to expeditiously return back to real issues for which they are in power.
Britain’s New Prime Minister Elections
Britain would have its first Prime Minister of Indian descent if Sunak wins election.
Contesting candidates will need at least the support of 8 MP’s for nomination. If after that there are more than 2 candidates, secret ballots would result in bringing down the number to two. In the end, the Conservative party will conduct absolute vote and declare a winner. The future British Prime Minister will be Victor.
By September, the entire process should be finished. Thus, the new leader would be eligible to speak at the next October Tory Party Conference.
