In Podgorica [Montenegro] A gunman got on the street in a mass shootout to kill as many as 12 people in mass shooting The gunman ended up getting himself shot in a police confrontation.
The gunman shot a total of 17 people out of which 11 were found dead while six were wounded, including a police member, eventually reported by Montenegro’s public broadcaster, Radio & Television of Montenegro (RTCG).
Four people were hospitalised in Cetinje hospital while two others were sent to the Clinical Centre in Podgorica.
The assailant was confronted by the police after which a cross firing broke out getting a policeman wounded.
RTCG cited some unofficial sources, the age of the attacker was 34.
What happened before to gunman
According to the broadcaster the incident was preceded by a family conflict, which supposedly ‘frustrated’ the gunman & made him furious. After which he came on the street & started shooting randomly, at passersby.
The assailant was killed in the police confrontation.
Government’s reaction to the shooting
The government of Montenegro declared three days of mourning to support the people affected by the great tragedy, which happened on Friday in the capital of Cetinje, RTCG said.
An ‘unprecedented tragedy’, is what the government called the killings. It tweeted: “This is an unprecedented tragedy that affects the whole of Montenegro. Therefore, I call on the Government to declare a day of mourning in the country. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
He added, “I am deeply shaken by the news about the terrible tragedy in Cetinje. I express my sincere condolences to the bereaved families & to all those who have lost their loved ones. All of us as a society should stand in solidarity with them in these difficult times.”
Danijela Durovic, the President of the Parliament of Montenegro extended her condolences to the families & friends of the victims.
She said that she was horrified & deeply affected by the tragedy of Montenegro. She added in the tweet that she “expresses the hope that we will never witness anything similar in our country again.”
