Ranbir Kapoor is sharing the screen with Sanjay Dutt in Karan Malhotra’s Shamshera. During an interview, Ranbir recalled the time Sanjay used to call him and tell him to stop doing ‘bad films’. Ranbir Kapoor did a biopic on Sanjay Dutt’s life Sanju, which was a commercial hit.

In the promotional event for his upcoming movie, Ranbir said that Sanjay would call and shout at him for doing ‘bad films‘.
“When I was working in Barfi and Rockstar, I used to work out in his (Sanjay’s) gym. He used to tell me, ‘Tu do saal se yahan gym kar raha hai. Par Teri body Kahan hai (You have been working out for the past two years, but your body doesn’t show it)?’ He would also ask me, ‘Tu Abhi Barfi Kar Raha hai (Right now you are doing Barfi). What is your next film then? Peda? Laddu?’”
Ranbir said about Sanjay Dutt that he has always had his back. He’s pleased and proud of everything that he has done. Ranbir says that Sanjay Dutt has always been an inspiration for him to do films of a different nature, and also films that speak to a larger audience.
Sanju Biopic on Sanjay Dutt’s Life
Ranbir played the role of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and marked Ranbir’s last on-screen appearance. Ranbir’s upcoming movie Shamshera is set in the 1800s in the fictitious city of Kaza in India, and Sanjay Dutt plays a ruthless authoritarian general Shudh Singh.

The film tells the story of Shamshera (played by Ranbir Kapoor), who became a slave, became a leader, and then a legend for his tribe. He duels for his tribe’s freedom and dignity. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor and will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on July 22. Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra is in the line in which star his wife Alia Bhatt for the first time. The film is set to be release on September 9, 2022.
