With the trailer of the film launching today, June 28, a controversy brews up in the entertainment industry. The trailer’s release was not given a No Objection Certificate by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification).
Despite the rejection, the film’s maker – Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan announced that they have received the certification and went ahead to broadcast the trailer, sparking up a fierce wrangle between the authorities and the makers.
Apoplectic and baffled over why the trailer was given a red light despite the film being approved and certified by the board, the director fortified the film against all accusations at the launch event. Co-producer Ashoke Pandit also vehemently articulated his chagrin and despondency.
The CBFC officials responded by clarifying that they have not rejected the trailer, instead had only suggested some cuts in the film. When the edits will be made, the certificate would be given.
Opposers call it a ‘Propaganda’ Film
The film, 72 Hoorain, deals with a highly fragile concept of manipulating innocents into becoming terrorists under fabricated illusions. Protesters have labelled it as a ‘propaganda’ tale.

India, still recuperating from the bedlam of ‘The Kerala Story’, the launch of the trailer faced severe besmirches by eminent political and religious leaders in Kashmir. It was said to have ‘hurt the sentiments’ of the Muslim community over the portrayal of the characters in a negative light.
‘Before Condemning, Watch the Film First’… Urges Director
Chauhan accentuates, in response, that the film is based on terrorism and the murky manipulation that goes on within it. Clearing the air, he also stated that the film’s sole purpose is to expose the hidden subterfuges of terrorism and does not aim to stereotype any particular sect. He urges the public to watch the film with a rational and unprejudiced mind before lambasting or categorising the film.
Staying tight-lipped about the plot of the film, Chauhan implores the audience to watch the National Award Winning Film to discover the other side of the story of terrorism. He elaborated on the importance of unveiling the dark conspiracies in terrorism. The truth, apart from spreading awareness, will lead to enlightening conversations among the masses and will widen the public’s perspective to ponder.
Co-Producer Ashoke Pandit’s Vociferous Reply
Following the squabble with The CBFC, Ashoke Pandit, Chief of IFTDA (Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association), fulminated against the board and Prasoon Joshi, holding them culpable for giving a thumbs down to the trailer. Enraged Pandit says, “We’re going to rip off the censor board.”
He supplements the issues pointed out in the trailer. The depiction of a dead body’s feet, an allusion to the Holy Quran, and something about animal welfare was included in the list of reasons responsible for the failure of the trailer to get the stamp of approval.

Flummoxed over the fact that the film, showing the same audio-visuals has got the certificate but the trailer hasn’t, he questions the officials on how could they reject the trailer.
Ashoke Pandit, in a clip, entreats Prasoon Joshi and Anurag Thakur, Information and Broadcasting’s Union Minister, to identify the censor board officials who refused the trailer and alleged them for suppressing their ‘creative independence’ and ‘freedom of expression’ them. He also requested them to facilitate a fluent release of the film.
‘72 Hoorain’ To Expose the Dark Secrets of Terrorism
72 Hoorain, starring Aamir Bashir as Bilal Ahmed and Pavan Malhotra in the role of Hakim Ali, promises to be an enthralling tale capturing the Taj Mahal terror blasts in Mumbai. The film first premiered at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where it won a Special Mention.

‘Hoorain’ are divine virgins who are awarded to men who go to heaven
The storyline of the film revolves around how bombers, falling prey to twisted lies that are fed to them, are slowly brainwashed into terrorism.
Director Sanjay Chauhan says that the story is an agonising reminder of the cruel manipulations used by terrorist leaders to push youngsters onto a ‘path of destruction’ under the illusion of 72 Hoorains and Jihad.
The film, already attracting publicity, is set to release on 7th July 2024.
