Indian singer-composer Bappi Lahiri has died at a Mumbai hospital at 69.
The singer got tested positive for Covid-19
Last year in April, the veteran singer was tested positive for Covid. After that, he was on complete bed rest. A wheelchair was additionally set up at his Juhu house for mobility and convenience.
He got admitted to the hospital and died, but will remain forever in our hearts
Legendary music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri breathed his last at Criticare Hospital in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Tuesday night, February 15, 11: 45pm. He died at the age of 69.
Read the official statement of the hospital: “Bappi Lahiri was suffering from OSA- Obstructive Sleep Apnea and recurrent chest infection,”
Bappi Lahiri was suffering from multiple illnesses and was being treated for that.
His health deteriorated on Tuesday night, so he was brought to the hospital. Doctors tried to revive him, but they could not.
The musician had a unique style of his own
The singer-composer has a familiar figure with his trademark gold chains for luck and sunglasses. He was known for his songs in many Bollywood films like “Chalte Chalte,” “Disco Dancer,” “Sharaabi,” etc. These were the films of the late 70s-80s.
His journey on Bollywood
He worked on the last Bollywood song, “Bhankas” in 2020 for the film “Baaghi.”
He debuted in the Bollywood industry by providing the music score for the 1973 movie ‘Nanha Shikari.’ In 2021, Bappi Lahiri revealed that he debuted in Bollywood as an actor in a Kishore Kumar movie, ‘Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi.’
Bappi Lahiri, who was lovingly called Bappi Da in the industry, is known for delivering iconic songs in several late 1970s-80s like Chalte Chalte, Disco Dancer, and Sharaabi. His last Bollywood song was Bhankas for the 2020 film Baaghi 3
Bappi Lahari with Lata Mangeshkar
In his last Instagram post, the legendary singer had shared a cute old photograph of himself, with the beautiful caption ‘Old is Gold.’
Taking to his Instagram handle on Sunday, Bappi Lahiri shared a monochrome picture in which he can be seen as a little boy sitting on the lap of the late icon. In the caption, he wrote, “Maa!” He also shared his picture with the veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar when he passed away on February 6.
He worked with Lata Mangeshkar on many beautiful tracks.
Since he entered the music industry, Lata Mangeshkar has been a robust support system for Bappi Lahiri. She sang his first composition in a Bengali film ‘Daadu.’
The first big Bollywood hit score of Lahiri was Aamir Khan’s father, Tahir Hussain’s movie, ‘Zakhmee.’ In that, Mangeshkar sang ‘Abhi Abhi Thi Dushmani’ and ‘Aao Tujhe Chand Pe Le Jaaon.’ Both these beautiful songs in Lata Ji were composed by Bappi Lahiri. Both of these were big hits.
