Belagavi(Belgaum) Border Dispute
Bengaluru, NOV 23 – Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that his government has completed all necessary arrangements to take the state’s border issue with Maharashtra to the Supreme Court. The news comes after Maharashtra’s Eknath Shinde administration selected ministers Chandrakant Patil and Shambhuraj Desai to work with a legal team on the court case.
Mr. Bommai told reporters on Monday that the state has assembled a team of senior lawyers to contest the issue in the Supreme Court when heard. Mr. Bommai said the lawyers’ team includes former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, Shyam Diwan, former Karnataka Advocate General Uday Holla, and Maruti Jirale.
“The team has taken all necessary steps to oppose the case (in the Supreme Court). I’ll also have a video chat with these attorneys.” Karnataka’s Chief Minister said. Mr. Bommai asserted that the case’s maintainability, let alone the primary petition, had not yet been resolved. “As a result, we have taken every effort to establish that the petition cannot be sustained,” he continued.
According to the Chief Minister, the State Reorganisation Act was approved under Article 3 of the Constitution. He noted that since the reorganization of states, no review petition has ever been entertained in the nation. Mr. Bommai said that Maharashtra politics was based only on border disputes.
“In Maharashtra, the boundary issue has become a political focus in and of itself. Regardless of party affiliation, all political parties promote the subject for political purposes. They will never succeed, though “Mr. Bommai said.
Maharashtra has been embroiled in a conflict with Karnataka over the status of the Belgaum (also known as Belagavi) district and 80 other Marathi-speaking villages under the administration of the southern state since its formation in 1960.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state administration is capable of defending its boundaries. “Furthermore, when it comes to Kannada state, language, and water, we all fight together. We will battle together in the next days as well “Mr. Bommai said.
He stated that he will write to the Leader of the Opposition and the leaders of other political parties about this matter. Siddaramaiah, a senior Congress politician, also warned the state government to be aware of the Maharashtra government’s actions.
“The Maharashtra administration has taken a special interest in the Belagavi border problem. @BJP4Karnataka should quickly wake up and convene for an all-party conference to discuss the next steps,” the Congress veteran tweeted.
