Priyanka Chopra Jonas was seen interacting with one of her closest friends, Lilly Singh, a renowned YouTuber, who was also present during the Pre-Oscars event, which highlighted the achievement of South Asian artists in Hollywood.
Priyanka Chopra shared a video of herself approaching Lilly Singh and locking arms with her on her Instagram story. “I know it’s a party as soon as I find @lilly,” Chopra wrote in the post, beside a heart and a champagne flute emoji.
Lily Singh reshared the sweet video on her Instagram story, expressing her love for Priyanka Chopra and writing, “Punjabi Connect.” At the event, both Priyanka and Lilly were dressed in gorgeous black.
On Thursday, Priyanka, along with Mindy Kaling, Kumail Nanjiani, Anjula Acharia, Bela Bajaria, Maneesh K Goyal, and Shruti Ganguly co-hosted a pre-Oscar event honoring South Asian talent. Riz Ahmed, whose film ‘Flee’ nominated for Best Documentary, International Feature, and Animated Feature and the short film ‘The Long Goodbye’ has been nominated for Best Live Action Short.
The Indian documentary ‘Writing With Fire’ received a nomination for Rintu Thomas, Sushmit Ghosh, and Anurima Bhargava. ‘Summer of Soul’, a documentary by Joseph Patel, has also been nominated. Pawo Choyning Dorji for ‘Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom’, Elizabeth Mirzaei, and Gulistan Mirzaei for ‘Three Songs for Benazir’ are among the South Asians who have gotten Oscar nominations this year.
Jay Shetty, Aziz Ansari, and Kal Penn were also among the celebrities that joined the pre-Oscars event to celebrate with the nominees in honoring South Asian achievement in film.
Priyanka shared photos from the event and mentioned that, it’s a special honor for her to co-host at the pre-Oscars event of celebration honoring 10 South Asian Oscar nominees of this year and the friends, family, and colleagues who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make all of this possible. She also wrote that, last night gave her all the feels, and filled her with so much pride for how far the South-Asian community has come. She lastly added, “The future of entertainment is looking bright.”
In her post, she added, “Special thanks to Anjula Acharia and Maneesh Goyal for having this idea and the cohosts who came together to make an unprecedented evening like this possible. Wishing the nominees so much luck on Sunday! Bring home the gold.”
Priyanka gave an impassioned address during the event, speaking about how happy and overwhelmed she was to be surrounded by such incredible South Asian talents. The actress also reflected on her Hollywood career, recalling how she got her start ten years ago when there weren’t many South Asian artists.
During the evening, the actress also raised a glass to the nominees, sharing a personal experience about how far the industry has come in terms of equality. Ahmed, who was nominated twice, also gave a speech thanking his fellow nominees and highlighting the diversity of the South Asian community.
Priyanka Chopra has been already a part of the Academy Awards before. In 2017, Priyanka Chopra, who plays Priyanka Chopra on Quantico, was a presenter at the ceremony. She was dressed in a Ralph & Russo silver ensemble. Priyanka Chopra blazed the red carpet at the 2016 Oscars in a lacy Zuhair Murad gown, which, by the way, was the seventh most-searched Oscar dress.
The actress and her husband, Nick Jonas, unveiled the list of nominees for the Academy Awards from the previous year. Priyanka Chopra’s next project, Citadel, is a multi-series that will be directed by the Russo Brothers and with productions from India, Italy, and Mexico, it will also feature Richard Madden.
IT’s the second project of her after the announcement of the Sangeet Project, a sangeet-themed dance reality programme that she will host with Nick Jonas. Priyanka Chopra starred in Netflix’s The White Tiger last year, which is based on Aravind Adiga’s Booker Prize-winning novel. Matrix 4 was her last appearance.

Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, will host the Oscars this year. The 94th Academy Awards will be presented at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on March 27th (March 28th, 5:30 a.m. IST).
