Will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend Ukraine, says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On 24 February Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a “military operation” in Ukraine, calling upon the Ukraine military to lay down its arms. Hours after the announcement, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ruptured all diplomatic ties with Russia on Thursday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the government would give weapons to all Ukrainian citizens who want to defend their country against Russian aggression.
President Zelensky said, “For all those who have not yet lost their conscience in Russia, it is time to go out and protest against the war with Ukraine. We will lift sanctions on all citizens of Ukraine who are ready to defend our country as part of territorial defense with weapons in their hands.”
Zelensky also appealed to Russians to stage protests against Moscow’s decision to send troops into Ukraine.
In a Tweet, Zelensky further compared the Russian attack to Nazi Germany. Russia treacherously attacked our state in the morning as Nazi Germany did in World War 2.As of today, our countries are on different sides of world history. Russia has entered on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself and won’t give up its freedom no matter what Moscow thinks, Zelensky wrote.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a war on Ukraine. Ahead of the invasion, Putin, in a televised speech, appealed to Ukrainian soldiers to lay down their arms and go home. He said the clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces are ‘inevitable’ and the unique military action was ‘aimed at demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine.’ Russia has seized control of two villages to the east of Ukraine.
According to the Joint Forces Command, today, about 50 Russian occupiers were killed in the Shchastya area.
The leader also urged world leaders to provide Ukraine with defense assistance and to help protect its airspace from Russia.
“Russia has unleashed a war on Ukraine and the entire democratic world,”
he declared. He requested that world leaders provide large-scale defense assistance and protect Ukraine’s airspace from the aggressor.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Ambassador to India, Dr. Igor Polikha, has urged the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and
“immediately contact Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.”
He stated that India has a special relationship with Russia and that New Delhi can take a more active role in managing the situation. Polikha went on to say that they are willing to defend their territorial integrity.
He went on to say that they are hoping for the active support of the Indian leadership in bringing the war to an end. He stated that they are currently asking for and pleading for India’s assistance.
