The Russian war with Ukraine has been going on since the beginning of this year has claimed thousands of lives in a matter of months, and reports suggest this week another 60,000 Russian troops have been killed by Ukrainian armed forces. Additionally, over 2,300 tanks have been decimated according to the Ukrainian official source’s updated estimated number of casualties.
President Zelenksky has declared this information at the city of Lyman which had been recaptured from Russian troops and he claims that the area is completely free of Putin’s forces.
According to the reports provided by the Ukrainian armed forces, a total of 60,110 soldiers were killed in battle, out of which, in the last 24 hours, 500 were lost in areas of Bakhmut and mostly Kramatorsk. As mentioned earlier, overall 2,377 tanks have been destroyed.
The city of Lyman is an important territory which is located in the eastern part of Ukraine and was part of the four Ukrainian regions which were invaded and captured by Russia as of today’s 12:30 pm in Ukraine, the area has been completely “cleared” of Russian armed forces. He then thanked the Ukrainian military for their valiant efforts. The message was uploaded as a video on social media.
The Ukrainian forces have shown immense resilience in the war and have claimed back large swathes of captured territory from Russia, as such the progression of Russia’s Ukraine invasion is facing quite some setbacks. The successful recapturing of areas by Ukrainian forces is happening due to a counter-offensive strategy adopted in September, though this has both humiliated and angered their war enemies.
This Saturday, President Putin had also to forcefully withdraw his troops from Lyman which had ended him up in a compromising position with his people as he had to face strong criticism from his side. The humiliation that the Kremlin faced had been impactful.
Russia used Lyman as a hub for logistics and transport but then the Ukrainian troops encircled the town applying the counteroffensive strategy.
The Russian defense ministry had released a statement where they had reported Russian troops’ withdrawal from Lyman, this was cited by RIA news agencies and Russia’s own Tass all over the country.
In his nightly address, President Zelenksky declared that the Ukrainian flag has already reached Lyman and over the past week, Donbas has got more flags. And according to him, in a week, there will be even more flags.
This month has been rough for Russia as Ukraine’s constant pushback is making the invasion harder and more lengthy. The multiple setbacks and humiliation that the Kremlin is facing currently are bound to make Russia use more aggressive and rougher tactics.
At the same time, Ukrainian soldiers are celebrating their victory and reclamation of captured territories.
Russian authorities are not happy with President Putin
Just recently, the Kremlin seems to have gone up from hushed criticisms to full-blown mutiny towards President Putin. Reportedly, the top commanders of Putin are trying to reason with him that at this point, the Ukraine war goals are “unachievable.” Reconquering Ukraine had been a long-cherished aim of President Putin and he had probably envisioned a quick triumph by prioritizing Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv’s capture.
Since the war began on February 24th, there have been almost more than seven months and the war is nowhere near its culmination. Ukraine’s resistance is fierce. September seems to have turned Ukraine’s chances of claiming victory over Russia a little higher, as the major counterattack in the region of Kharkiv had been devastating for the Kremlin.
Russia is suffering from huge losses week by week and the front lines are experiencing severe depletion from manpower and even ammunition, military equipment, etc.
On September 21, President Putin even had to authorize a “partial” mobilization of the reserves.
Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, has also praised Ukraine’s military efforts, he said that the advancement made by Ukraine in Lyman is an exemplary show than Russian forces can be pushed backed.
He says with the reclaiming of captured territories, Ukraine is making progress in the war. Ukrainian authorities are also certain that Putin’s desire of Ukraine’s annexation with fail. The constant support shown by NATO countries towards Ukraine might have also encouraged and boosted morale of the Ukrainian troops. It is certain that as long as Ukraine has hope and support, it will continue to resist and stay strong in front of its enemies. Ukraine’s steadfastness is also apparent with Russia’s retreat from some of its captured territories.
