Twitter web users were greeted with the Shiba Inu ‘doge meme’ instead of the iconic blue bird logo after Elon Musk’s latest social networking upgrade.
Often making headlines for his strategic moves, the Twitter CEO, Elon Musk has upgraded the social networking site, changing the logo. The 51-year old billionaire has changed the iconic blue bird logo to a ‘doge’ meme. The meme is inspired by the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, featuring the face of a Shiba Inu. The previous logo served as the primal home button on the web version of micro-blogging site Prior to this, the CEO sought the dismissal of a $258 billion lawsuit, accused of having inflated Dogecoin’s original value.
The micro-blogging site no longer discriminates between accounts that were earlier freely verified, and accounts that are now being verified on payment basis. This change was made after Musk’s takeover of the micro-blogging site in late 2022. Removing the verified check marks of accounts, Twitter has removed verifications of accounts like New York Times who have refused to pay for the service.
The new Twitter Logo & its origins
The ‘doge’ meme was created in the year 2013 from a hilarious point of view, on the web version of Twitter. This logo is a part of the main Dogecoin blockchain & cryptocurrency logo. The main agenda to create this logo was to mock other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, sources claim.
Right after the official announcement of the Twitter upgrade, Musk took to his account to share a post on the Twitter update. This post features Shiba Inu in the car, telling the police officer that his photo has been changed. The police officer, meanwhile, is portrayed looking at the dog’s license. Notably, there was no change on the application version of the social networking site.
Twitter rose Dogecoin’s value
Another tweet that went viral was Musk’s conversation between him & the anonymous account where Musk was insisting on changing the bird logo to ‘doge.’ Along with the screenshot, Musk was sure to make a mention of ‘As promised,’ on the platform Dogecoin also responded with a tweet, invoking the style of the meme quoting, “Very currency. Wow. Much Coin. How Money. So Crypto.”
It is understood from a wide variety of sources that Elon Musk is an avid doge meme lover. He has perpetually promoted Dogecoin on the platform as well as on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ during his appearance. With the upgrade made to web logo earlier this week, the value of Dogecoin saw an exponential rise of more than 20%.
Twitter : Beyond just a Tweet
Before acquiring Twitter, Musk had posted an update on the platform in March 2022. He had asked a question as to what should be done considering Twitter serves as a platform ‘de facto public town square,’ hindering free speech, restricting their viewers from voicing their opinions on relevant topics.
Musk had also posted another photo which was captioned ‘Seize the Memes Of Production.’ Showcasing his love for ‘doge,’ he also shared another photograph with his viewers, posing as a proud CEO captioning the moment as, ‘The new CEO of Twitter is amazing.’
