The Russian missile and artillery strikes pose a threat to the Indian Navy and Air Force, albeit they appear to be shielded for the time being from the direct consequences of Ukraine’s escalating conflict.
Due to the strikes, images and videos have leaked showing the Antonov and Zorya-Mashproekt plants in Ukraine on fire. Several parts of Russian systems used by the military services are procured from Ukraine by India.
Many of the USSR‘s defence industry hubs remained in Ukraine after the country’s disintegration. The Indian Air Force operates over 100 An-32 aircraft manufactured by Antonov, which are in the final stages of an upgrade.
The Indian Navy also depends on Zorya-Mashproekt to power many of its surface ships, including stealth frigates and destroyers.

According to sources, the Navy, unlike the IAF, is largely reliant on Ukrainian manufacturers. The IAF’s reliance on Ukrainian firms is limited to the An-32 and a few missiles. The Indian defence establishment was particularly concerned about the attack’s long-term consequences.
This includes limited manoeuvring space for the procurement of Russian weapons, delivery of contractual systems, replacement parts, and the lessons China will learn from this conflict as long as the Line of Actual Control stays closed (LAC).
