Asian countries Japan, South Korea, and Singapore tops the list with the most powerful passports in the world continue to recover from COVID-19 and reverse the pre-pandemic top ranks that were dominated by European Countries.
The Japanese passport provides problem-free entry to 193 countries, one more than those travelers from Singapore and South Korea, according to the latest Henley Passport Index from Henley & Partners, an immigration consultancy.
Russian Passports are ranked 50th, giving access to 119 nations. Whereas China placed 69th with access to 80 countries. India’s passport ranked 87th and Afghanistan’s passport is the least powerful, getting the holder access to only 27 countries.
Henley & Partners Chairman Christian Kaelin said in stated that “The recovery and reclamation of our travel freedoms, and our innate instinct to move and migrate, will take time.”
In the year 2017, Asian countries barely featured among the world’s 10 most-powerful passports, according to the index. Europe’s domination has gradually eased and German passports are now trailed by South Korea Passports. The UK ranks sixth with access to 187 countries, while the US is seventh with a score of 186, according to the latest rankings.
The index uses 17 years of data which helps wealthy individuals and governments assess the value of citizenships around the world based on which passports offer visa-free or visa-on-arrival access. Even now, with global travel yet to fully recover from Covid pandemic restrictions, the index offers only a national snapshot of the best official documents to hold as the world emerges from the pandemic.
