Plumes of smoke were seen over the town of Solar on Wednesday as the Russian and Ukrainian forces engaged in a war for the town. A recent scientific assessment by the UN EP found that the Ozone layer, the earth’s protective shield, is healing at a slow yet noticeable rate. At this rate, the hole in the ozone that lies over Antarctica should heal by 2066. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the recently elected PM of Brazil, has vowed to punish all those who support the country’s ex-leader, Jair Bolsonaro, after they stormed Congress. Amber McLaughlin, a 49-year-old transgender woman was executed on Tuesday in Mississippi. This is the first execution of an open transwoman in US history. She was executed for murdering a former girlfriend in November 2003. The conviction took place on Tuesday, McLaughlin was injected with Lethal injection which led her to die. On Monday, a petition surfaced on the internet to stop the execution of McLaughlin. The petition received 4,900 signatures out of the 6,400 required signatures. Russia’s defence ministry on Sunday said that 63 Russian soldiers have been killed in a Ukrainian New Year’s Eve attack on their quarter in a Russian-controlled part of Ukraine’s Donetsk province. Before this Ukraine’s defence ministry reported nearly 400 dead Russian soldiers in this attack. Russia says that Ukraine fired rockets at a facility in the Donetsk region.
